How we got started . . . Three Rivers Way
The idea for the Three Rivers Way route originated in 2007 when local people were talking about the lack of opportunity to walk locally (and not use a car) which would become a greater issue if more housing development took place.
As a result local people were encouraged to suggest a route to the Active Travel project of North Norfolk District Council who were seeking ideas for multipurpose pathways in order to improve accessibility to local services and amenities, to reduce car journeys of less than five miles, to increase levels of physical activity and to raise the local economic base through tourism.
Local Survey - see the results
In July 2007 responses to a questionnaire survey locally showed enthusiasm for the idea and more people responded than in any of the other areas being considered.
The Three Rivers Way route was then chosen, along with 5 others, from 32 possible routes to be taken forward in North Norfolk. A Working Party was formed and started to engender more support and began to work with Norfolk County Council and the Active Travel project to look at suggested routes. These were discussed and commented on by local residents at the Information Evening (Horning to Hoveton - Ludham Bridge to Horning - Potter Heigham to Ludham - Thurne Bank Route) in Ludham on 18th April. These comments are used for the feasibility study for the section Potter Heigham to Horning. The study for the Horning to Hoveton section has been produced and a copy is available at Wroxham library. Funding will be sought from various sources with the help of Norfolk County Council and North Norfolk District Council Active Travel project.
